What Does Fire Need?

Start by teaching basic fire safety.
Pass out tea candles and mason jars to each table.

1. Kids invert jar and cover candle to watch how flame wanes when oxygen is low.  They move jar on and off to see flame go down and back up.
2. Pass out dessert size plates and pour water with blue food coloring onto each plate. Cover the candle and jar will suck up water.
3. Remove plates and water. Pass out newsprint and balloons to each table.  Fill regular size balloons with water to size of average water balloon. Adults light the newsprint and place in jar.  Cover mouth of jar with balloon.  Balloon will get sucked into jar as pressure decreases.
4. Pour about 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol into 5 gallon water cooler jug. Swirl alcohol around until it is mostly evaporated.  Turn down the lights, drop a match into the jug and enjoy the fireball show! .
